WELCOME TO TOOMBS COUNTY SHERIFF



	Sheriff Alvie Lee Kight, Jr Sheriff Kight is a native of Toombs County and a graduate of Toombs County High School. He is married to the former Patty Claxton of Vidalia and has three children and one grandson. Sheriff Kight served on the Vidalia Police Department for nine years and was voted Policeman Of The Year by his peers. He graduated from Coastal Georgia Police Academy and was voted Class President by his peers. He was employed with Vidalia Police Department in 1981 and in 1984 was promoted to Captain. During this time he completed courses in Burglary Investigations, Officer Survival, Terrorism and Hostage Negotiation and Law Enforcement Supervision at Georgia State University and Georgia State Police Academy. In 1990 he was promoted to the Administrative position of Department Head of Public Works. His responsibilities included managing a budget that exceeded 2 Million Dollars. He was also Grants Coordinator for Public Works and managed many employees. He also managed contractors that work for the City of Vidalia. His years of experience in Law Enforcement and Administration along with his strong desire to make our homes and community safe and prosperous is what motivated him to run for the Office of Sheriff. He has been Sheriff of Toombs County since November of 1998. Sherff Kight is a staunch supporter of the DARE Program in our schools and of the Georgia Sheriff's Association Youth Homes.

	Barry E. Brown, Chief Deputy Chief Deputy Brown began his law enforcement career as a Deputy Sheriff in May of 2000. Shortly after graduation from Southeast Georgia Police Academy he was elevated to the position of Chief Deputy. Chief Brown’s background has been with a public utility company where he served 37 years before his early retirement. He held several positions with the utility including Auditor, Fire Chief (25 years), Safety Committee Chairman, Fire Brigade Instructor, Adjunct Instructor for Confined Space Rescue Team and support Instructor for Plant Security. Chief Brown’s primary duties include the management and supervision of the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office including Patrol Division, Investigations, E911, Administration (D.A.R.E., School Resource, Court House Security, and training). He is the primary contact for Toombs County sex offender tracking, responsible for development of policies and procedures, supervision of purchasing and acquisitions, and Coordinator of the Child Fatality Review Committee. 	Mike Harlin, Administrative Sergeant Mike Harlin began working for the Toombs County Detention Center in July 1994 as a jailer. In three years he rose to the rank of Sergeant before heading to the Police Academy in 1997 to become a certified Police Officer. After graduation, Mike began working as a Patrol Deputy with the Toombs County Sheriff's Office and that same year was nominated by the director of the GBI for the Georgia Police Officer of the Year Award. He continued as a Patrol Deputy rising to the rank of Sergeant, Patrol Supervisior and obtained his credentials as a field Training Officer. In January, 2007 he left patrol to accept promotion to Administrative Sergeant to assist the Sheriff and Chief Deputy with day-to-day operations of Toombs County Sheriff's Office. Mike is blessed with a wife of 26 years and 2 children who have supported him throughout his career.

	Patsy Chester, Administrative Secretary Patsy came to work at the Sheriff's Office in August 2001; her primary duty is secretary to the Sheriff. She relieves the department head of clerical details and operational administrative matter; transmits order and instructions with the authority of the Sheriff. Performs public relations functions with the public, department heads, officials, personnel and visitors: coordinates meetings. conferences and appointments for the Sheriff and other staff.

	Johnnie Branch, Administrative Clerk Johnnie came to work with the Sheriff's Office in 1996; her primary duty is acting as clerk and receptionist; she sits at the front window where she greets and directs visitors; acts as clerk in receiving monies for court fees, child support, warrants and processes civil papers to be served. Relieves the department head of clerical details and operational administrative matters: transmits orders and instructions with the authority of the sheriff.
