The Toombs-Montgomery County E-911 center is located at the Toombs County Sheriffs Office in the city of Lyons. The 911 center is operated by twelve dispatchers. There are four shifts which have three dispatchers to each shift. The 911 center provides new addresses for Toombs County residents and also maintains the address information for both Toombs and Montgomery Counties. We have recently upgraded to the new CAD system. CAD means computer-aided design. This system helps us with day to day call taking and dispatching. The 911 center dispatches for numerous agencies, they include: Toombs County Sheriffs Office, Montgomery County Sheriffs Office, Lyons Police/Fire Department, Vidalia Police/Fire Department, Rural Fire Departments for both counties, EMS, Toombs/Montgomery Rescue (EMA) and all First Responders. 	Barry E. Brown, Chief Deputy Chief Deputy Brown began his law enforcement career as a Deputy Sheriff in May of 2000. Shortly after graduation from Southeast Georgia Police Academy he was elevated to the position of Chief Deputy. Chief Brown’s background has been with a public utility company where he served 37 years before his early retirement. He held several positions with the utility including Auditor, Fire Chief (25 years), Safety Committee Chairman, Fire Brigade Instructor, Adjunct Instructor for Confined Space Rescue Team and support Instructor for Plant Security. Chief Brown’s primary duties include the management and supervision of the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office including Patrol Division, Investigations, E911, Administration (D.A.R.E., School Resource, Court House Security, and training). He is the primary contact for Toombs County sex offender tracking, responsible for development of policies and procedures, supervision of purchasing and acquisitions, and Coordinator of the Child Fatality Review Committee. 	Darlene Smith, LT of Communications Darlene is currently employed at the Toombs County Sheriffs Office as Lieutenant of Communications. She began her employment with the Sheriff’s Office in September of 2002 as a 911 dispatcher. Although she still dispatches her duties as a Lieutenant are to oversee the daily operations of 911 and to assist Chief Brown.
